Cozy and Cute Patterns
Cute small flower patterns, inspired by old Tobe ware designs from the Edo period, are depicted on the vessels using the representative "sometsuke" (underglaze blue) technique of Tobe ware. The patterns are stylish and charming, beautifully blending the aesthetic of a bygone era with modern tastes.

Warm Blue Tones
The small flower patterns feature a soft, gentle blue. The delicate and pretty blue floral design beautifully complements your dishes. Additionally, the fine crazing on the surface further enhances its charm.

For Side Dishes and Snacks
With a depth of approximately 3.5cm, it's safe to serve juicy side dishes such as nimono (simmered dishes), shira-ae (white sesame dressing), and hiyayakko (cold tofu). It's also recommended for serving Japanese sweets or baked goods. The slightly inward-curved rim prevents spills and makes it easy to scoop, making it a convenient and useful item.

Enjoy the Unique Character of Each Vessel
Because each piece is handmade, you can feel the warmth and character in the subtle differences: the green color that appears from the reaction of the glaze, the various sizes of iron spots that emerge from the iron content in the clay during firing, the crackle patterns (kannyu) formed by the difference in shrinkage rates between the body and glaze after firing, and the variations in pattern size, shape, and blurring unique to hand-painting.

As each item is handmade, there will be individual differences in color, color shades, shape, thickness, size, weight, glaze unevenness/pooling, slight wobbling, and subtle variations in patterns. Please enjoy these as unique expressions of handmade craftsmanship. We cannot guarantee which specific item you will receive, but we hope you look forward to its arrival. If you are concerned, please feel free to contact us before shipping, and we will email you additional photos.

| Tobe Ware |
|
Tobe ware is pottery produced in Tobe-cho, Iyo-gun, Ehime Prefecture, and its surrounding towns and cities. Its production began in the mid-Edo period, giving it a history of approximately 240 years. In 1976, four types—white porcelain, sometsuke (underglaze blue) works, celadon, and tenmoku (iron glaze)—were designated as national traditional crafts. In 2005, it was designated as an intangible cultural asset of Ehime Prefecture. Tobe-cho and its surrounding areas have nearly 100 kilns. The characteristics of Tobe ware are its white porcelain with indigo patterns, its thick and unadorned forms, and the hardness of its material. The arabesque pattern is a representative design, along with nazuna (shepherd's purse), tokusa (horsetail), and taiyo (sun) patterns, which are also considered traditional designs. Today, Tobe ware continues to inherit traditional techniques and patterns while also creating new designs. |
| Usage Precautions from Tosaigama Nagato Pottery |
|
〇 Because original clay and glaze are used, crackle patterns that resemble designs appear. As it is used, stains will emerge, but these stains are proposed as "growing vessels" that develop character. |
| Understanding "Vessels" |
|
〇 Since each item is handmade, there may be individual differences in color, shape, pattern, size, thickness, weight, etc. Also, even with the same glaze and clay, color variations and shades will appear. 〇 Since each painting is hand-drawn, the expressions may vary. 〇 Due to the manufacturing process, some products may have small holes, small black dots, scratches, protrusions, pinholes, wobbling, or distortion. 〇 We strive to process images to bring the product photos as close as possible to the actual color, but the color and texture may appear different depending on your computer or smartphone display screen. 〇 We deliver items that have passed not only the inspection of the manufacturer, kiln, and artist but also our final inspection. 〇 Product photos are sample shots, so the item you receive will not be identical in every detail. 〇 We do not accept returns or exchanges due to customer preferences. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation before making a purchase. 〇 We hope you enjoy the "flavor" and "interest" unique to handmade items, which are not found in mass-produced factory goods! |
