Adorable and cozy patterns

The classic "Sometsuke" (underglaze blue) technique of Tobe-yaki is used to depict charming small floral patterns on the tableware, inspired by old Tobe patterns from the Edo period. These patterns beautifully merge the essence of good old times with modern taste, making them stylish and lovely.

Gentle red that soothes the dining table

The faint and soft red of the small flowers. The green color that appears as a result of the glaze reaction also gives a warmth unique to handmade items. Furthermore, the fine crazing on the surface enhances its beauty.

For side dishes and sweets

With a depth of approximately 2.8cm, it's safe for serving soupy side dishes like nimono (simmered dishes), shira-ae (mashed tofu salad), and hiyayakko (chilled tofu). It's also recommended for serving Japanese sweets, baked goods, and other desserts. The rim is slightly curved inward, making it less likely to spill and easy to scoop, making it useful and convenient.

Enjoy the unique expressions of each piece of tableware

The green color that appears due to the glaze reaction, the large and small iron spots that appear when the iron in the clay reacts during firing, the crazing that forms cracks due to the difference in shrinkage between the bisque and the glaze after firing, and the subtle differences in pattern size, shape, and bleeding unique to hand-drawing—all these nuances allow us to feel the warmth and character of each handmade piece.

Since each piece is handmade, there are individual differences in color, color intensity, shape, thickness, size, weight, glaze unevenness/pooling, slight wobbling, and subtle differences in patterns and designs. Please enjoy these unique expressions as characteristics of handmade items. We cannot choose which item you will receive, but we hope you will look forward to its arrival. If you are concerned, please feel free to contact us, and we can email you additional photos before shipping.

 Tobe-yaki

Ceramics produced in Tobe-cho, Iyo-gun, Ehime Prefecture, and its surrounding towns. Production began in the mid-Edo period, giving it a history of approximately 240 years. In 1976, four types—white porcelain, sometsuke (underglaze blue) works, celadon, and tenmoku (iron glaze)—were designated as national traditional crafts. In 2005, it was designated as an intangible cultural heritage of Ehime Prefecture. There are nearly 100 kilns in Tobe-cho and its surroundings. Tobe-yaki is characterized by blue patterns on white porcelain, a plump and thick yet unpretentious shape, and the hardness of the material. Traditional patterns include arabesque, shepherd's purse, tosa (parallel lines), and sun patterns. Today, new designs of Tobe-yaki are being created while preserving traditional techniques and patterns.

Usage precautions from Tousaigama Nagato Seitoujo

〇Because original clay and glaze are used, pattern-like crazing appears. As it is used, stains will develop, but they propose it as a "growing vessel" where these stains become part of its character.

Understanding "Tableware"
〇Due to being handmade, there may be individual differences in color, shape, pattern, size, thickness, weight, etc. Also, even with the same glaze and clay, color unevenness and shades may appear.
〇Since each painting is done by hand, expressions may vary.
〇Depending on the product, small holes, small black dots, scratches, protrusions, pinholes, wobbling, and distortions may be seen due to the manufacturing process.
〇While we strive to process product images to be as close to the actual color as possible, the color and texture may appear different depending on your computer or smartphone display.
〇We deliver items that have passed not only the inspections of the manufacturer, kiln, and artist but also our final inspection.
〇Product photos are samples, so the actual item you receive will not be identical in every detail.
〇Returns or exchanges due to customer's convenience are not accepted. Please understand and acknowledge this before purchasing.
〇We hope you will enjoy the "flavor" and "charm" unique to handmade items, which are not found in mass-produced factory goods!
