Adorable Patterns That Bring Comfort
The representative "sometsuke" (underglaze blue) technique of Tobeyaki pottery is used to depict charming small floral patterns on this ware, inspired by patterns from Ko-Tobe (Old Tobe) pottery from the Edo period. The patterns, which beautifully blend the traditional feel of a bygone era with a modern aesthetic, are stylish and lovely.

Warm-Toned Blue
The soft and gentle blue of the small floral patterns. These delicate and charming blue flowers beautifully enhance your dishes. Additionally, the fine crackle (kannyu) on the surface further accentuates its charm.

For Side Dishes or Tea Snacks
With a depth of approximately 2.8cm, it is safe to serve soupy side dishes like nimono (simmered dishes), shira-ae (tofu dressing salad), or chilled tofu. It's also recommended for serving sweets such as Japanese confectioneries or baked goods. The rim is slightly curved inward, making it less likely to spill and easy to scoop, thus making it convenient and useful.

Enjoy the Unique Character of Each Piece
Each piece, being handcrafted, offers warmth and a distinctive charm. This is evident in the green color that appears due to glaze reactions, the large and small iron spots resulting from iron in the clay reacting during firing, the crackle patterns (kannyu) formed by differences in shrinkage rates between the body and glaze after firing, and the subtle variations in pattern size, shape, and bleeding that are characteristic of hand-painting.

Each piece is handmade, so there will be individual differences in color, color shades, shape, thickness, size, weight, glaze unevenness, glaze pooling, slight wobbling, and subtle variations in patterns. Please enjoy these as unique characteristics of handcrafted items. We cannot guarantee which specific item you will receive, but we hope you look forward to its arrival. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us before shipping, and we will email you additional photos.

| Tobeyaki Pottery |
|
Tobeyaki is a type of ceramic ware produced in Tobe-cho, Iyo-gun, Ehime Prefecture, and its surrounding towns and cities. Its production began in the mid-Edo period, giving it a history of approximately 240 years. In 1976, four types—white porcelain, sometsuke (underglaze blue) pieces, celadon, and tenmoku (iron glaze)—were designated as national traditional crafts, and in 2005, it was designated as an intangible cultural property of Ehime Prefecture. In Tobe-cho and its surroundings, there are nearly 100 kilns. Tobeyaki is characterized by its white porcelain with indigo patterns, its sturdy thickness and unadorned shapes, and the hardness of its material. The arabesque pattern is a representative traditional design, along with nazuna (shepherd's purse) patterns, toso (grass) patterns, and sun patterns. Today, new Tobeyaki designs are being created while inheriting traditional techniques and patterns. |
| Precautions for Use from Tousaigama Nagato Pottery |
|
〇Due to the use of original clay and glaze, crackle patterns may appear. As you use it, stains will emerge, and these stains are considered to give character to the "aging ware" they propose. |
| Understanding "Pottery" |
| 〇Due to being handmade, each piece will have individual differences in color, shape, pattern, size, thickness, weight, etc. Also, even with the same glaze and clay, there will be variations in color and shade. 〇Since each painting is hand-drawn, the expressions may differ. 〇Depending on the manufacturing process, some products may have small holes, small black dots, scratches, protrusions, pinholes, wobbles, or distortions. 〇While we process images to be as close to the actual color as possible, the color and texture may appear different depending on the display screen of your computer or smartphone. 〇We ensure that only items that have passed not only the inspections by the manufacturer, kiln, or artist but also our final inspection are delivered to you. 〇Product photos are sample shots, so the item you receive will not be identical in every detail. 〇We do not accept returns or exchanges due to customer preferences. Please understand and agree to this before making a purchase. 〇We hope you enjoy the "flavor" and "interest" unique to handcrafted items, which are not found in mass-produced factory goods! |
